PORT SCANDAL ROCKS SANFORD’S BOAT
FITSNews – February 14, 2008 – We’ve been highly critical of both Gov. Mark Sanford and former State Ports Authority Board Member Tumpy Campbell for their shared failure to move South Carolina forward on the ports issue. You know, like these guys and these guys are moving forward.
Anyway, according to an Associated Press report today, Tumpy and his allies in the legislature may have finally gotten a leg up on the governor in the PR battle. From the story:
Gov. Mark Sanford enmeshed himself in the state’s $26 million sale of former port facilities near Beaufort last year, first by conferring with a developer who didn’t win the bid, and then by unsuccessfully trying to undermine a different developer’s higher offer by disparaging the man’s reputation.
Sanford pretty much admits all of the above, but calls the attacks against him “politically-motivated.” While there may be some truth to that, the bottom line is that the governor appointed all of these morons over at the State Ports Authority in the first place, including his fundraising guru Bill Stern, the biggest moron of them all.
The fact that these guys are all of a sudden helping Sanford’s legislative antagonists stick it to him, well, let’s just say it’s hard to feel sorry for the guy …
