WE WERE GONNA BE FUNNY, BUT THIS IS JUST TOO MUCH

FITSNews – February 7, 2008 – We’ll be the first to admit that “sensitivity” isn’t our strong suit here at FITSNews. We call it like we see it, and if you don’t like what we’ve got to say we encourage you to kiss our incredibly firm, well-shaped and regularly-exfoliated backsides. Of course there are certain stories that cause us to shed our irreverent cynicism and momentarily grow a heart. Stories like this one, which discusses how the AIDS virus can be spread by pre-chewed baby food. Yeah, you heard that right. From Reuters:

In developing countries, some mothers pre-chew food for babies. These women may lack access to packaged baby food or may not have a way to blend baby food. This practice is thought to be very rare in the United States or other wealthy nations.

While we initially viewed this story as a great opportunity to talk about cud – (editor’s note: one of our favorite side dishes), not to mention a chance to perform a valuable public service by making sure Clemson graduates got this important health message, something compelled us to switch gears. Specifically, we were reminded of a story that we wrote awhile back on the ONE campaign, a group which incidentally happens to be “one” of our advertisers (editor’s note: “one” of … get it?) …

Anyway, we’re sure all the conspiracy theorists out there will say that we’re just sucking up to an advertiser here, but that doesn’t change the fact that there’s something fundamentally wrong with our planet if babies are contracting this terrible disease because their access to basic nutrition is so limited. We’re sure fixing this problem probably involves spending a lot of money, but it sure seems like something rich fatasses like Sic Willie could donate at least a couple bucks toward …

UPDATE – Courtesy of our friends at ONE, here’s a link to some organizations you can contribute to if you’d like to do something about this. :)

Cud-chewing does not indicate a lack of nutrition, it indicates a lack of blenders. And electricity. Perhaps you could put Osteriser on the list of organisations to contribute to.
