UNDERDOG GIANTS STUN PATRIOTS IN SUPER BOWL XLII, ELI FOLLOWS PEYTON TO MVP GLORY

FITSNews - February 3, 2008 - After years of living in his brother’s shadow (and failing to live up to Big Apple-sized expectations), New York Giants’ QB Eli Manning is finally the Super Bowl Champion no one thought he would be. Certainly, Manning wasn’t supposed to win it this year, as the undefeated New England Patriots seemed destined to complete the NFL’s first perfect season since 1972.

Favored by a dozen points, the Pats had Super Bowl XLII all but wrapped up when QB Tom Brady hooked up with WR Randy Moss for a six-yard touchdown pass with just under three minutes left in the game. But that’s when the oft-criticized Manning - who has never put up the kind of stratospheric numbers his brother Peyton has - proceeded to march his team down the field on a 12-play, 83-yard drive capped by a gorgeous, 25-yard fade pass for the game-winning touchdown with 35 seconds left.

And who caught it? Plaxico Burress, the same guy we said was “crazy” last week for predicting that the prodigious Patriot offense would be held to 17 points (by the way Burress was wrong, they were held to a season-low 14 points).

And while we’re sad that our beloved Colts’ Super Bowl reign has finally drawn to a close, we’re happy for Eli and the Giants … they pulled off a win nobody saw coming against a team nobody thought could be beaten. We also have to show some rare love for Brady, who played hurt and got beat up all night by the Giants’ defense but still fought hard all the way down to the wire. So congrats to both teams on one helluva game … and get ready for the Colts to beat your asses next year!

It was a great game, for sure. Nice to see the class involved when Belly-check left before it was over and TB didn’t bother shaking any hands. Karma’s a bitch!
