BUT LET’S NOT GIVE THE GOVERNOR A “VICTORY” HE DOESN’T DESERVE

FITSNews - January 29, 2008 - The worst-kept secret in South Carolina politics is that former State Ports Authority board member Carroll A. “Tumpy” Campbell III has a brain about the size of a walnut. Seriously, how on earth does anybody let themselves get outmaneuvered politically by Gov. Mark Sanford, who has all the Machiavellian instincts of a dyslexic infant? Yet here we have “Tumpy” (yes, that’s what his friends call him) who is suing the governor after getting fired from the Ports Board. Why’d the governor fire Tumpy? Well, Sanford says its because he’s a lobbyist, but our guess is it’s more likely because he’s a socialist … at least as it relates to our state’s woefully-outmoded port system.

All of which brings us to this morning’s surprising column eviscerating Campbell by The State’s associate editor Pippi Wrongstockings, who generally embraces socialist virtue like Tom Cruise embraces Scientology.

Look people, selling a socialist notion to the editorial board of The State newspaper is a lot like selling crack to a crackhead. The product pretty much sells itself, hence the paper’s nickname “La Socialista.”

And while we certainly agree with Pippi’s opinion in this matter, we’d like to remind you that the governor deserves absolutely zero credit on this issue. He should’ve fired Campbell a long time ago, along with the rest of the communist morons who are currently running our state’s most valuable competitive asset into the ground. But he didn’t - in large part due to political contributions - and our state missed out on a golden opportunity as a result.

I hear he may still be indicted for another matter, so all that port authority bluff and bluster may mean nothing.

I cannot for the life of me understand why Tumpy believes he was entitled to this position…. talk about reverse entitlement… grow and make a way in the world on your own right and not on the coast tails his late, racist father

Sanford is the cry baby!

Governor Sanford fired Carroll Campbell, III without cause.

Sanfraud wanted to gain control of the Ports Authority Board with his own cronies.

It unfortunate that someone like Carol Campbell is being smeared by creepy Sanfraud.

Carroll Campbell is a man of honesty and integrity, something that Sanfraud is not interested in. Campbell’s firing was unjust and he should be reinstated to the Ports Authority Board.

Maybe instead of considering the states ownership of our ports socialist, you should think of it as an investment of South Carolina’s sovereign fund.

And how about those socialista firemen and policemen, William? You better get right on that. And for God’s sake, don’t forget the librarians.
Go go go!

9. The gall, they cried - January 30, 2008

Imagine the gall. The governor wants the folks who sit on the Ports Authority board — folks that are appointed by the governor and who answer to him on an at-will basis — to conduct themselves with integrity (actual and apparent) and to advance policy positions on which he ran (successfully, twice) for governor. And in giving Tumpy the boot, Gov. Sanford exercised a power that was rightly exercised many times by Gov. Campbell.

Tumpy wasn’t elected to any office by anyone and is acting as if he is entitled to the SPA appointment because of his daddy. Everyone in the statehouse lobby knows that Tumpy has played fast and loose for years; he’s an absolute joke. And Scoppe got it exactly right: “Question Mr. Sanford’s judgment in the matter if you like (as I do regularly on other matters), but not his integrity, and certainly not his right to act. If there is anything inappropriate here, it’s Mr. Campbell’s use of our judicial system to contest this purely political skirmish.”

Amen. Sit down and shut up, Tumpy.
