FEAR OF U.S. “BAGEL” SPAWNS GLOBAL ECONOMIC JITTERS

FITSNews – January 28, 2008 – There’s a funny scene from Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing in which a senior White House staffer reminds one of his subordinates that you don’t dare breathe the word “recession” in the President’s house. “Call it a bagel,” the subordinate is told.

Well, America’s impending “bagel” is wreaking all sorts of financial havoc on the rest of the world this morning. Markets in Asia are all down sharply, the British economy looks pretty much screwed, and stock prices here at home are taking a tumble as well.

We’ve already written about our government’s response to all this, but the bigger question is this – when will we move away from inadequate reactionary stop-gappage and start charting a sensible, sustainable fiscal course for our nation?

You know, like the one that this dude recommends … or even more impressively, this dude.
