SC Votes … Most Of It, Anyway
RAIN, SLEET, SNOW & COLD GREET PALMETTO VOTERS … MACHINES FAIL ALONG GRAND STRAND
FITSNews – January 19, 2008 – Turnout was steady to strong across South Carolina as voters went to the polls today to make their GOP presidential preference known. Snow and sleet fell in the Upstate, while a cold, persistent rain fell across much of the rest of the state. The weather didn’t seem to stop voters at Lexington County’s Grenadier precinct, where FITSNews paid a visit at around 5:30 p.m. Poll officials there said roughly 330 voters had already showed up, which was “about the same as it was eight years ago.”
In Horry County on the South Carolina coast it was quite a different story, however, as an “operator error” resulted in widespread malfunctions affecting between 80-90 percent of the County’s voting machines. Some voters were even turned away, which the State Election Commission said should “never” happen. In 2000, the GOP primary was conducted by the South Carolina Republican Party, not the state.
Depending on the returns that come in tonight, it will be interesting to see if the problems in Horry County rise to the level of a formal challenge by any of the campaigns …

From what I read, McCain was looking at filing suit, but changed his mind: http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/776/story/320647.html

I don’t know if I can stomach voting for McCain – the thought of it is noxious – I definitely won’t vote for Hillary or Obama but how can you vote for McCain?
By McCain only won 1/3 of the vote on January 19th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Well crap…John McCain.
Conservatism didn’t loose tonight…it just split.
If Thompson hadn’t been on the ballot, Huckabee would have won hands down.
McCain won b/c true conservatives were split today, and that’s a shame.
