WHILE BRADY, ROMO PLAY, MANNING METHODICALLY PREPARES FOR CHARGERS
FITSNews – January 10, 2008 – After suffering one of the worst outings of his professional career two months ago in San Diego, the most untalked about defending Super Bowl MVP of this playoff season isn’t taking anything for granted against the Chargers in this weekend’s AFC Divisional Round.
Sure, fellow marquee signal-callers Tom Brady and Tony Romo are out cavorting with their celebrity girlfriends Gisele Bundchen and Jessica Simpson, but like his understated Indianapolis team, Manning is all business.
As this excellent Chicago Tribune column explains, that’s a metaphor for this season. While Brady’s New England Patriots and Romo’s Dallas Cowboys have dominated the NFL (and celebrity gossip) airwaves, Manning & Co. have quietly gone 13-3 (despite a rash of key injuries) and positioned themselves to have another shot at Super Bowl glory.
We’re not saying Sic Willie’s beloved Horsies are actually going to beat the hated Patriots and win it all again this year, we’re just saying we like where Manning’s head’s at …
