GODFATHER OF PORK HONORED FOR “HIGHEST PRINCIPLES OF LEADERSHIP”

FITSNews - January 8, 2008 - If there were ever an oxymoronic moment in South Carolina politics, it took place last night when State Sen. Hugh Leatherman was given an award for embodying “the highest principles of leadership based on integrity, compassion, vision, civility and courage.”

Geez … this guy wouldn’t know any of those things if they bit him in the ass.

Leatherman, in our book, embodies the lowest principles of political expediency based on intimidation, corruption, vindictiveness, cunning and contradiction, and the results of his “leadership” on the state of South Carolina are painfully self-evident.

We didn’t know they handed out awards for keeping an entire state stuck in the dark ages, but then again, this is South Carolina. At least the guy who won this award last year didn’t pretend to be something he wasn’t while doing it …

That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. I guess somebody’s trying to kiss his ass so he’ll turn over a little bit more of our money to them.

I was at that banquet last night. I sat on my hands when Leatherman was announced and left the room when he began to speak. Working around him last year made me lose any respect for him that his position would otherwise call for. But Mulroney was pretty darn good.
