Jupiter One: Next Talking Heads?
“COUNTDOWN” PRETTY MUCH ROCKS, PEOPLE
FITSNews - January 2, 2008 - We’re embarrassed to admit that a man-child is providing us with music recommendations (off of his Madden ‘08 soundtrack, no less), but thus is the reality of our connection to Jupiter One and their surprising retro-rock hit “Countdown.”
We’re not sure what’s up with this band (they don’t even have a Wikipedia page yet), but ever since we heard this song blaring over Sic Willie’s incessant office video-gaming, we’ve been tapping our feet and smiling a lot more than usual. As UBL tells us:
Opening with a hypnotic, scrappy riff, (Countdown) builds up to a wall of fuzz until it soars into a dreamy, psychedelic haze, as if Wire had morphed into the Beatles. Although often tagged with a New Wave revival safety pin, Jupiter One bursts through the haze of ’80s nostalgia with wit and muscle, wowing audiences with their boundless enthusiasm and irresistible charm.
We’re stopping by Papa Jazz record shoppe to pick up the band’s debut album later on tonight, and if we don’t get sucked into their voluminous used DVD collection, we’ll try and come back with a thumbs up or thumbs down for you.
UPDATE - We just got an e-mail from Jupiter One’s drummer Dave (editor’s note: that’s just how we roll) and word is the band’s debut album is only available right now via iTunes or off of the band’s website. It’ll be released in March in the UK and here in Bumpkinland, USA, in April.

Jesus – I like the same music as Sic Willie? Truly, this is where bipartisanship starts.

Yep, 80s MTV new wave stuff. Which is a good thing, in my book.

Thanks for keeping us in your brain and ears
We appreciate the kind words and love sharing company with Talking Heads…one of our faves!
Unfortunately you won’t find our album in Papa Jazz’s record shop. The album is available for digital download on iTunes and other places, but will be released “physically” in April. The U.K. gets it in March, but in the meantime you can order a physical CD from our website and we’ll mail it out to you.
Thanks again!

Jupiter One is terrific - great sounds, lots of depth to the tracks (musically), especially compared to the repetitive punk wannabes popular for the last few years. EA got this one right!
