LOWCOUNTRY STUDENT, SUPPORTERS REMIND US OF THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

FITSNews – December 13, 2007 – As much as we spar from time to time with our buds over at The Palmetto Scoop, we’ve got to give them credit – when it comes to getting the word out about a good cause, there’s no better blog in the state.

Yesterday, the Scoop brought to our attention the story of Brittany Riffe, a Lowcountry high school senior who was left paralyzed after a car crash four months ago. Faced with nearly a quarter of a million dollars in medical bills (which continue to accumulate), Riffe’s family has thusfar only been about to raise a small fraction of that amount, prompting Charleston County Council Chairman Tim Scott and other supporters to organize a special fundraiser for Brittany on Sunday, December 23 (which happens to be her eighteenth birthday).

We’ll be making the trip to the North Charleston Holiday Inn next Sunday night for the event (which runs from 5:00 -7:00 PM) and we hope you can make it, too. But if you can’t be there in person to show your support, we hope you’ll join us by contributing whatever you can to this incredibly worthwhile cause. Brittany is an unbelievably courageous young woman who despite her ordeal continues to stay upbeat, inspiring to those around her and singularly-focused on beating the odds.

If you’d like to help her out this Christmas, checks can be written to Seacoast Church or to Brittany’s mother, Sherry Riffe, and mailed to 1403 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29407. All contributions will go directly to the Riffe Family and are 100 percent tax deductible.

How sad that Brittany, her family and supporters have to work so hard to raise money for medical treatment in the United States of America.

You’d think in a country so great…it wouldn’t have to be that way.

The “true christmas spirit’ will happen when this country wakes up and realizes that Americans shouldn’t have to go bankrupt to simply live.

Bless you Tammy. You’re a great American!

If we had decent – affordable health care coverage for ALL Americans, then all Americans would be so much better off.

sic(k) willie would still have a pink mohawk.

And, he would still be a pink political jerk.

Again, bless you Tammy.

According to the GOP and the Bushies all she has to do to get healthcare is go to the emergency room.
