Many have questioned why Lott didn't wait until after Jan 1. If he had, he would have saved millions in taxpayer money (his successor could have been appointed ... now a special election must be held). The other magic thing about Jan 1 is if he waited to resign the new lobbying rules would have kicked in (making him wait...what, something like 2 years?....to work as a lobbyist) I believe “truthseeker” is on to it.
