The Minnesota Vikings Are Insensitive
FORMER USC STAR DOCKED PAY FOR ATTENDING GRANDMOTHER’S FUNERAL
FITSNews – November 9, 2007 – Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver Troy Williamson has been fined $25,000 for missing a game to make arrangements for his grandmothers’ funeral, a penalty the former South Carolina standout says he will appeal. From the ESPN story:
Williamson’s maternal grandmother, who helped to raise him and with whom he was very close, died last week and he returned to South Carolina, where he played a large role in arranging her funeral. He also had to make travel arrangements for several of his siblings, some of whom are in the armed services.
Needless to say, people are really, really, really pissed off at the Vikings right about now. And they should be. Because grandmothers and members of our armed services are two things you just don’t f*ck with. Seriously, the only way the Vikings could be a bigger bunch of assholes at the moment would be if they were somehow culpable in this woman’s death.
Here’s a free PR (not to mention common sense) tip: Refund the money, publicly apologize and send some damn flowers, Vikings.
