NOT MUCH ELSE TO CHEER ABOUT AS GAMECOCKS FALL TO VANDERBILT

FITSNews – October 20, 2007 – We’re not including any pictures from today’s University of South Carolina football game, because when you lose to Vanderbilt it’s just too painful. Even if the Gamecocks had beaten the Commodores 17-6, we’d still be pissed off about it and remain convinced that our team was a) overrated and b) headed for a disastrous finish against Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida and Clemson – four teams that could very easily make South Carolina a .500 squad by the time November is over.

“They spoiled our season,” said USC wide receiver Kenny McKinley, and sadly, that’s no understatement.

After a pathetic second half effort in last week’s 21-15 win over North Carolina, the sixth-ranked Gamecocks picked up where they left off against Vanderbilt, failing to score a touchdown and turning the ball over four times en route to a humiliating 17-6 loss. Most of the blame for this one falls on South Carolina’s offensive line, which is clearly the worst in the Southeastern Conference. The Gamecocks’ front five gave up seven sacks, had five false start penalties and failed to create any room for the running game, which picked up just 26 yards on 22 carries.

Oh well … at least there was a cool fly-over at halftime …
