GAMECOCKS SURVIVE SCARE AGAINST NORTH CAROLINA
FITSNews – October 13, 2007 – Armed with its first Top Ten ranking in six years, South Carolina certainly didn’t play the part of one of America’s elite programs Saturday in Chapel Hill. Sure, the Gamecocks (6-1, 3-1 SEC) managed to eke out a 21-15 win over the North Carolina Tarheels, but watching the No. 7 team in the land try to move the ball in the second half was like watching a JV high school offense going up against Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens.
Head Coach Steve Spurrier‘s offense didn’t score once in the second stanza, the first time that’s happened since last year’s Georgia game.
“They kicked out butts in the second half,” Spurrier said after the game.
No sh*t. After scoring on three touchdown drives in the first half, South Carolina gained just 62 yards in the game’s final 30 minutes, and then watched helplessly as North Carolina quarterback T.J. Yates shredded the nation’s best pass defense on two touchdown drives to pull the Tarheels within six points.
South Carolina will likely remain in the Top Ten this week, but given the way they played this week against a 2-5 ACC team, they probably don’t belong there.

Don’t you understand? This year it’s not about winning pretty. It’s about survival. If you live to fight another day, say a prayer, kiss your Lee Corso voodoo doll and be thankful your team isn’t Arkansas.

This has got to be the worst year for college football. To have the Gamecocks in the top ten is absolutely pathetic. To have KY as the number 8 team in the country is just about as bad.
There are no good teams this year. Carolina is better than they have been in the past, but really compared to other great teams of the past, they suck.
This season should have an * beside the statistics and polls.
It should read
* this is the lamest year for college football in eleventy kabillion years. We can’t find another year that is any worse. If the Gamecocks can stay in the poll for more than two weeks you know it sucks.

I guess reformsc is working. They even turned spurrier conservative in the 2d half. Almost killed us. When you have your boot on the other guy’s throat don’t let up – just stomp

That’s the worst sports argument I’ve heard this side of Lou Holtz. Brilliant insight, there.
