S.C. Senator Wants To Burn Down Congress’ House

ALRIGHT, WE’RE EXAGERRATING … BUT NOT BY MUCH

FITSNews – October 9, 2007 – We’ve always liked State Sen. Glenn McConnell … especially when he gets all “Confederatey” on us. He’s also a loyal FITSNews reader, which means he is drawing his political guidance from the fount of all knowledge and wisdom.

Anyway, McConnell has clearly been following our coverage of the immigration issue (probably this article in particular) because last week he sent out a sternly-worded pronouncement demanding a Constitutional Convention to discuss the matter.

“Unfortunately, the ability of the state to deal with the problem of illegal immigration is almost entirely taken away by the provisions of our Constitution that leave immigration law solely within the province of the federal government,” McConnell said in his release. “However, Congress has refused or is incapable of acting, thereby leaving the states in the position of burning while Congress fiddles … the constitutional amendment would say that if Congress continues to refuse to act, then states would have the ability to act in order to protect themselves and their pocketbooks.”

Red meat for the right, you say? Si! Si!

While we applaud Sen. McConnell for being his usual aggressive self when something doesn’t sit well with him, we’re frankly a little wary of putting him anywhere near a Constitutional Convention.

After all, there’s a good chance that by the time it finished its work, the U.S. Capitol would be nothing but a “smouldering heap of Yankee aggression” while hundreds of Hunleymobiles patrolled the streets of Washington D.C.

God only knows what McConnell’s minions would do to the Lincoln Memorial, but our bet is a wrecking ball, a lot of chewing tobacco and some “yee-haws” would likely be involved.
