NORWOOD SHINES AS NO. 11 SOUTH CAROLINA CLAWS NO. 8 KENTUCKY

FITSNews – October 4, 2007 – In front of a national television audience on ESPN, South Carolina’s young Gamecock football team moved to 5-1 (3-1 SEC) on the year with a big Thursday night win over the eighth-ranked (and previously undefeated) Kentucky Wildcats. The only thing that could have made this rainy night in Columbia any better would’ve been seeing Ashley Judd in one of her trademark UK T-shirts. Preferably without one of these on.

Anyway, the 38-23 win will more than likely propel South Carolina into the Top Ten for the first time under 3rd-year head coach Steve Spurrier, not to mention propel the football star power of sophomore defensive lineman Eric Norwood, who returned two Kentucky fumbles for touchdowns.

Norwood was literally all over the field tonight, batting down passes, pressuring the quarterback and drilling opposing ball carriers. His best play wasn’t even one of his two scores, either, it was the remarkable speed he flashed in catching up with speedy UK running back Rafael Little ten yards into the USC secondary when he appeared to be out of the play after rushing the quarterback.

The Gamecocks get the North Carolina Tarheels next Saturday up in Chapel Hill …
