SCETV DOCUMENTARY TO EXPLORE SOUTHEAST’S MOST INTENSE FOOTBALL RIVALRY

FITSNews – August 29, 2007 – With college football season finally upon us, we figured now was as good a time as any to preview an upcoming SCETV documentary about the South Carolina-Clemson football rivalry that has us especially excited. Entitled “Just A Game,” the one-hour film will explore not only on the teams competing on the field, but will also provide an up-close look at the legions of diehard fans and assess the profound impact the rivalry has on the fabric of our state.

In case anybody’s forgotten, South Carolina rallied from a 28-14 second-half deficit last year to defeat the Tigers 31-28 in Death Valley. The Gamecocks then went on to trounce Conference USA Champion Houston in the Liberty Bowl, while Clemson lost to SEC doormat Kentucky in its bowl game. Again, just in case anybody’s forgotten.

Anyway, according to the network, the program will be broadcast statewide as part of ETV’s Carolina Stories series the night before the Carolina-Clemson game on Friday, November 23. An encore presentation will follow on Saturday afternoon before the game and an updated version of the show, including game day footage, will air the following week.

We even hear SCETV camera crews will be interviewing fans at Carolina and Clemson home games this year, including Saturday’s Gamecock season-opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.

UPDATE – Check out this press release from SCETV. Casting call, football fans!

USC vs. Clemson southeast’s most intense? Now I am as big a USC fan as any but I am rational. There are much bigger rivalries in the southeast. Not in any order but…. Miami vs. Florida State, Georgia vs. Florida, Alabama vs. Tennessee, Florida vs. Florida State, and the grandaddy of most intense…Alabama vs. Auburn.

There is also a growing feeling that perhaps the Georgia game is turning into the most important game for our fans on the schedule. It has been going that way since we entered the SEC. That rivalry may be unrequited but some loves (and rivalries) are.

Alabama and Florida State suck. I will grant you Georgia-Florida. But “intense” though??? The fight in 2004 does not get more intense. May be it was a national black eye but it is part of the rivalry history now.

Yeah, Alabama sure does suck. Jesus – 12 national championships, most bowl appearances, most bowl wins – that’s just a mountain of suck.

Just to give you an idea – Condi Rice and the British foreign secretary had to be at the ’05 Bama-Tennessee game just to make sure a war didn’t start.

In case you’ve forgotten Kentucky the “doormat of the SEC” as you put it finished ahead of USC last year in the SEC East standings and beat UGA. Something it seems the gamecocks cannot do. Perhaps those fans of doormat SEC schools should not call other SEC schools dormats.

Lately? 10 wins, in 2005 and 2002. When’s the last time Carolina had 10 wins? The ’80s?
