CARMONA’S STRONG PERFORMANCE LIFTS FARTKNOCKERS’ FORTUNES

FITSNews - August 16, 2007 - With just two weeks left in the 2007 regular season, the FITS Fartknockers are solidly in third place in the Great Santini League fantasy baseball standings, and could challenge league leaders “Croon Crew” and “Notorious” for the coveted top playoff spot. Yesterday, Fartknockers’ starter Fausto Carmona pitched eight innings of one run ball to earn a win over the reigning AL-Champion Detroit Tigers. Carmona boasts a 14-7 record with a 3.16 ERA in 24 starts this season, and his addition to the FITS rotation earlier this year has helped propel the Fartknockers to what should be their second consecutive playoff appearance.

“Ever since the beginning of this season our goal was to make the playoffs and win at least one round,” Fartknockers’ owner and Interim Santini League Commissioner Sic Willie told reporters this morning. “Fausto has certainly helped us tremendously in fulfilling that initial goal and hopefully he’ll help us take the next step as well.”

The Great Santini League regular season ends on August 31, with only the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. During the first two weeks of September, semi-final head-to-head matches will be held between the No. 1 and No.4 seeds and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. Semi-final winners will square off for the coveted Santini Championship trophy during the last two weeks of September.
