… LEATHERMAN’S NEW “MARIONETTE” IS PRETTY FUNNY
FITSNews – August 16, 2007 – We were cruising through the Reform SC website today when we stumbled upon a hilarious image of State Sen. Huge Government Leatherman playing with his new toy (and our state’s new Treasurer) Converse “Sock Puppet” Chellis. As we reported yesterday, Chellis did his masters’ bidding by casting the deciding vote against Gov. Sanford’s fiscally conservative choice for executive director of the S.C. Budget and Control Board, a bloated, dysfunctional throwback to our state’s 19th Century structure of government.
“While squashing reform means fiscally irresponsible legislators are dancing in the aisle like it’s 1895 (constitutionally), the Budget and Control Board maintains its reputation, in the Governor’s words, as a warehouse for political hacks and wasted taxpayer dollars,” the website says.
Damn. Team Sanford is pulling no punches these days. Of course, we do believe that it was a huge tactical error for Sanford’s former Chief of Staff Henry White to resign his position as the board’s Executive Director last month. White, the first African-American to hold the position, should have stayed at his post and forced the board members to remove him, something many believe they lacked the political capital to do. It was also quite difficult to fathom that Chellis would do anything but oppose Sanford’s nominee after the governor’s office pulled out all the stops to keep him from becoming Treasurer.
Chellis’ dilemma now, however, is determining whether or not he wishes to be completely co-opted by the big spenders on the budget board. If he consistently votes to preserve the status quo (as he did yesterday), he’ll find reelection a brutal fight in 2010.

“If he (Chellis) consistently votes to preserve the status quo…he’ll find reelection a brutal fight in 2010.” Please… South Carolinians love the status quo, particularly when they have the “R.” next to their name on election day. II Grady Patterson had been a Republican, he would still be treasurer today. (come to think of it, that doesn’t sound too bad)

Just curious, but do you mean the same U.S. Constitution that considered an African-American as 3/5th a human being? Or that refused the right to vote to women? Thank God for the Amendments, right?
Oh, and we fail to see how a $3 trillion national debt and impending Social Security disaster can in any way be defined as “working pretty well.”

5th…domestic spying and regulatory taking
9th ..pop test…it says what?
And my favorite: the 10th: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.amendment.
If that is your definition of “working well,” that must make you a government employee.
Not that this has anything to do with the rights to use socks as puppets, which I think is buried in the 8th Am someplace.
