AND WHY WON’T THEY LEAVE US ALONE?

FITSNews – August 9, 2007 - We haven’t written about Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul yet, probably because he has about as much chance of actually becoming president as we do. Of course that hasn’t stopped a veritable army of his supporters from bombarding us with e-mails asking why we haven’t devoted any ink to his campaign/ movement.

One even berated us vigorously for failing to notice the handwritten “Ron Paul For America” sign heading West on I-126 (like we would drive to that side of the river), and then berated us even more vigorously after we replied that we might consider discussing his candidacy if he stopped using magic markers and bed linens for campaign signs.

We’re sure Dr. Paul is a decent guy, but from everything we can tell his supporters are pretty much the extras from One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. In fact, we’re pretty sure 99.9% of them were actually foaming at the mouth when they e-mailed us.

Anyway, while the lithium was flowing freely here in the Palmetto State, here’s what Dr. Paul’s website said he was up to in Iowa yesterday:

The day once again began early at 6:00 am with a radio interview by telephone with Andy Peterson, a popular conservative in Cedar Rapids. Luckily, the schedule between 6:30 and 9:00 was clear, affording Dr. Paul a chance for a vigerous (sic) walk, a healthy breakfast and some time alone with his thoughts.

Hmmmm. If we were Ron Paul supporters, now would be the time when we asked for a two-and-a-half hour “moment of silence” to ponder the significance of what took place in Ron Paul’s head during the two-and-a-half hours he was “alone with his thoughts.”

Again, hmmmm. And “amen.”

Look people, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with straitjackets, padded walls and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches (editor’s note: heaven), but Dr. Paul might find his candidacy taken a little bit more seriously if his people dialed it down to, say, five.

And he might want to fill his campaign schedule with something other than introspective walks, or at least refrain from telling us about it if he can’t.

That’s fine, Will. So you like the IRS tax code. And you think the federal Department of Education is doing a great job making sure our kids are getting the best education possible. And you like farm subsidies, gun control, and are vehemently pro-life. You also must think we’re doing a great job in Iraq and controlling our borders from illegal immigration.
And, hey, if a guy with terminal cancer wants to smoke some pot because he thinks it helps with the nausea from chemo, we should throw him in prison, right?

These guys are good writers and are kind of funny. They seem the type who would be big enough men (?) to eat their words with a great big galss of shut-the-fuck-up if Paul does well in either Iowa or New Hampshire. He polls at 0 to 2% right? I’d assume anything over 10% in either straw poll would earn contrition from these guys … wouldn’t it?

It’s probably the borderline personality talking here, but I’m gonna give them the benefit of the doubt.

first of all i don’t think he should be president. i just think he is the only one who still views the republican party in its concept for america. of course, no one would give him a chance but the pathetic other candidates do lend him some credibility. i think if you put someone else in then the underpinning forces will still mine their quarry. it is so troubling to me that we have gotten this far. it is so screwed up right now that untangling it will take a lot of expertise and sound judgement which is like a candle in a hurricane. i am not that pessimistic but am appalled at the current situation. the apathy is so unbelievable and no one is going to stand up for fear of being ostracized.

so i got taken. now the ship is going down with the pirates still on board as the jolly roger tattered from the events don’t have a clue of what is next. i always said revenge is not my consideration because i might injure someone who was not really involved or coerced with what occured. it is very troubling though that there is so much secrecy in the unravelling. maybe it is best to hide, i don’t know. but i know that i have worked so hard to figure this out and it is not a happy situation to be in. no cost can be calculated but that is not the point. it is just unbelievable that the trust is so shattered that we can never stand as proud as we once did. maybe i was in a sheltered world but i didn’t think it was so. i am not anyone to be scared of i am just so tired of the test. i have spent a year on this and i have always tried to keep a perspective. maybe there will be a turn around that will benefit all. remember that it is not a war as far as i am concerned. i will not release anything said in confidence. i have kept this under my hat for a long time. thank you to those who were understanding. i believe you are hard pressed on a lot of issues and know that you had a tougher ordeal than mine. honestly, Locke Mason

i don’t feel self rightous i don’t feel anything good right now. but i will try to learn from my erroneous mistakes and treat my family better. they have suffered. i don’t know about employment. but i feel i could be an asset to someone who needs some financial ideas. i know i cannot go back to controller because it is no longer a drive for me. maybe statistical analysis but i don’t know where to go. i am open to suggestions if anyone has any advise. thanks, Locke

What a perfectly objectionable cretin you are, FITS, is it?

I have 42 patents under my belt, several of them used in advanced guidance systems employed by JPL and NASA, does that qualify me for a straight jacket? While your words will be little more than deleted bytes, my work will be drifting off to the edges of the galaxy. If that makes you the genius and me the “One Flew Over The Cukoos Nest” cast member, I suppose that will serve as an endorsement of my position. Sometimes the inmates are running the asylum.

We support Ron Paul in large part because the other candidates are such complete liars there is no appreciable way to estimate what they stand for, not to mention the fact that as liberal as America has become, we still aren’t ready for a former mayor of New York who regularly appears in drag.

Do you know what an anachronism is? You should look the word up, you’ll hear people refering to you as one often enough I expect.

To answer your question as to why Ron Paul supporters are so “crazy”, it is not that they are crazy, they are just paying more attention to what is really going on than you are. Three of the biggest reasons we are crazy about getting Dr. Paul the nomination:

1. We do not like the idea of an N.A.U. Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. will merge into an EU style North American Union bureaucracy. New flag, and new currency called the “Amero”. We will lose our Constitution, our Bill of Rights, and our national soverignty. Mind you, there has so far not been one candidate to even acknowledge the existence of the efforts currently underway making this N.A.U. a reality in the near future. Ron Paul strongly opposes the N.A.U. and the NAFTA super highway already under construction in Texas. There are dozens of anti and pro N.A.U. websites please don’t take my word for it, just look it up for yourself. Oh, and don’t forget the mandatory microchips for all.

2. We recognize the fact that the IRS is a fraud and the government has no authority to tax us on the fruits of our labor. So does Ron Paul.

3. We know that we cannot continue to print money to finance undeclared no-win wars all over the world against an enemy that can never die. Printing money is the source of inflation, and is putting us on a collision course with destruction. Ron Paul is the only candidate who wants to bring the troops home, build a strong homeland defense and restore sound money. The other candidates do not even address these issues. They want to continue taxing us and printing money to police the world.

So my question to you is, do you really think the N.A.U. is a good thing? Losing our rights and exporting 40 million American jobs?

Do you think we should allow the government to illegally income tax us?

I just don’t understand how anyone could disagree with Ron Paul once they know the truth.

Mmmmmm… the fear and apathy is palpable… I assure you, you have nothing to be afraid of. Embrace the candidate known as Ron Paul… Your kids will thank you in the future.

He is the only conservative able to beat Hillary. Without him, we will have Hill at the Helm.

I personally believe as with all candidates there are good supporters and true idiot supporters.

I kind of think some of the wingnuts that have adopted Ron Paul need serious psychiatric treatment for paranoia. That said, I am a Paul supporter to some degree. As a candidate, his domestic ideas are key. The fact is all the other candidates express ideas of larger government and more control at the federal level, albeit un-realistic Paul express the full opposite of that.
On foreign policy issues I disagree with Mr Paul.. I for one do not believe the US can withdraw from hotspots around the globe willy nilly and leave a vacuum.

We face serious issues, our economy I feel is teetering on an abyss, loose monetary policy is the biggest part of the problem. Paul recommends the return to a gold standard, in economic terms the cure would be worse then the disease. We have a country of spenders. US consumers have a net savings rate of -2%. where around the world, Japan for example has an after tax savings rate of 18%. Americans spend more then they earn. The issue for the individual as with the government is debt.

I know there are elements of the Ron Paul supporters who believe 9/11 was a conspiracy and believe this so vehemently that they accost “non-believers” for it. The Alex Jones, Lew Rockwell dope smoking diaper babies among them are among the worst of the lot. They are putting Ron Paul in a bad light just because they support him.

The other thing is RP is for a lot of reasons his own worst enemy. He has the charisma of the local dogcatcher, but his ideas of limited government is resonating with many of us. I disagree with others responding I do not believe he is capable of winning the general election but his presence in the election may influence content and course.

While I am all for free speech, I would caution the more vitriolic supporters to tone down the rhetoric. They are hurting Ron Paul.

Or maybe realise that your opinion is perhaps not the correct one. so go ahead and say Im coockoo, whatever. If x% of people actually listened to Ron Paul and voted for him, then x% of us should be thrown in the jacket and drugged up!
