Glavine Gets No. 300
MORE IMPORTANTLY, FARTKNOCKERS GET WIN NO. 56
FITSNews - August 6, 2007 - New York Mets’ hurler Tom Glavine picked up career win No. 300 last night with an 8-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs, becoming the first player to achieve the milestone in a Mets’ uniform and the first to do so since his former Atlanta teammate Greg Maddux accomplished the feat three years ago. Only twenty-three pitchers in Major League history have won 300 games.
Of substantially more interest to FITSNews‘ readers, however, was the fact that the left-hander’s historic “W” also counted in the FITS Fartknockers‘ fantasy baseball stat column as the team’s 56th win of the season.
“We’re obviously thrilled for Tom but the fact remains this is a playoff drive and our team needs to secure its spot for the post-season,” Fartknockers’ owner Sic Willie said shortly after Glavine’s landmark victory. “We’ve got three weeks left until the fantasy playoffs start, people, we need to keep our eyes on the prize.”
