FORMER DEMOCRATIC SECRETARY OF STATE CANDIDATE FUELS SPECULATION OF GOP PRIMARY CHALLENGE

FITSNews – June 22, 2007 – A rising star in South Carolina politics has switched from the Democratic to Republican party, fueling speculation that he will mount a GOP primary challenge to S.C. Secretary of State Mark Hammond next Spring. Todd L. Tomlinson, the adorable puppy who won the hearts of Palmetto voters earlier this year when he became the first canine in the nation to seek statewide office, initially withdrew his bid for the Democratic nomination due to what his owner described as “chronic chewing issues.”

Tomlinson has apparently now resolved those chewing issues (he can sit, shake and roll over, too) and is ready to resume his campaign, only his political consultant Sic Willie has advised him to run as Republican this go-round.

“There’s no difference between the two parties in this state so why not go with the majority?” Sic Willie rationalized to a crowd of reporters this evening. “Plus it’s the Secretary of State’s office, the effective operation of which is a lot less complicated than Todd’s daily routine of sleeping, sniffing himself and copping the occasional squat.”

In addition to being the cutest dog ever, Tomlinson is a vigorous advocate for animal adoption, which he would use his bully pulpit to promote if elected.

Todd is also a firm believer in moving the Secretary of State’s office into the governor’s cabinet and restructuring its responsibilities within a newly-created Department of Administration. He is also a firm believer in hogging space in the bed and playing “good sniff, bad sniff” with his live-in mistress, a pure bred Westie named Cotton.
