Gay People Evidently Aren’t Sending Flowers To The Falwells

FORMER TELEVANGELIST’S DEATH EVOKES ANGRY RESPONSE

FITSNews – May 15, 2007 – We’ve never been huge fans of Jerry Falwell. Then again, nor have we ever had much of a problem with gay people. And if there’s one thing we encourage above all else, it’s people speaking their minds and telling it like it is. Having said all of that, we did read a lot of Emily Post as little girls and we’re pretty sure there’s a chapter in the etiquette book somewhere that says you don’t slam somebody publicly on the day they die.

That’s why we found today’s press release from the San Francisco Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community so tasteless. It’s not that they’re necessarily incorrect – Falwell did in fact wrongly blame gays for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and he was the leader of a movement that sometimes employed “vicious” tactics in limiting gay rights. But staging an anti-memorial? Come on, gay people, the guy just died.

We thought it was especially crass that after ripping the deceased Reverend a new one, the release concluded by saying “we wish Rev. Falwell’s family as much peace and comfort as is possible during what will most surely be a difficult time for them.”
