INFLUENTIAL STATE SENATOR PUTTING OFF BACK SURGERY TO PARTICIPATE IN WORKER’S COMP DEBATE TOMORROW

FITSNews - April 3, 2007 - We like irony here at FITSNews. Like seeing a “Free Windshield Repair” sign (through a cracked windshield) en route to Baton Rouge, Louisiana last weekend (above - long story). Or all the stuff that happens in that Alanis Morrisette song. Or watching five State Senators admit to a conflict of interest on one workers’ compensation vote while using numerous other votes to kill meaningful workers’ compensation reform in the Senate. Isn’t that ironic? Don’tcha think?

That’s why we were pleased to stumble upon a particularly juicy bit of irony just in time for tomorrow’s big workers’ comp showdown in the S.C. Senate. Sources tell FITSNews that the ringleader of the anti-reform forces, Sen. John Land, is - get this - actually putting off back surgery to participate in tomorrow’s debate.

Wonderful. So the same guy who makes hundreds of thousands of dollars each year on workers’ comp cases is going to suck it up and deal with the discomfort for a few more days so he can make sure his bread stays buttered. That’s sweet. Of course, if you were one of John Land’s clients, he’d make damn sure you could sit on your ass for the rest of your life with an ice cold Budweiser, a can of roasted almonds and some Skinemax reruns - minus his commission of course. But whatever. When it comes to keeping South Carolina home to some of the highest workers’ comp premiums anywhere in the nation, John Land “hasn’t got time for the pain.”
