SOUTH CAROLINA’S MOST POWERFUL SENATOR “CUT AND BLEEDING” ON GRANTS SCANDAL

FITSNews – March 21, 2007 – When we first exposed the brewing competitive grants scandal here on FITSNews last week, our assumption was that “Little Big Man” Sen. Hugh Leatherman would deny the allegations, silence those who knew the truth and yeah, basically get off scot-free. You know, like he always does when he pulls this kind of wasteful, boondoggle bullsh*t.

Well, now that La Socialista’s Cindi Ross Scoppe has sunk her teeth into the scandal (and started chewing), and FITSNews is hearing that one of South Carolina’s largest TV stations has started investigating the story, things may not be so hunky dory in Oompa Loompaville.

“He’s cut,” said a S.C. Senate staffer who spoke with FITSNews on condition of anonymity. “And bleeding.”

“The caucus sees weakness in (Leatherman), the very thing he has lorded over them for all these years. The only concern is if you shoot at the King, you better make damn sure you kill him. The scopes are out, though, and it’s gonna be like Dealey Plaza before it’s over with.”

In fact, one powerful State House lobbyist went so far as to personally beseech us to lay off the Senator.

“Senator Leatherman is one of my most important personal relationships,” the lobbyist told FITSNews.

Well, good luck with all that.

The caucus has definitely been looking for opportunities to take shots at Leatherman. The beginning is when they stripped him of his Majority Leader status in favor of Peeler. They weren’t comfortable with Leatherman holding both that post as well as the Finance Chairmanship, because it gave him too much power.
