When Sucking Up Goes Wrong
ROMNEY’S MIAMI SPEECH GOES OVER LIKE THE BAY OF PIGS
FITSNews - March 20, 2007 - According to this morning’s Boston Herald, Cuban-Americans are hopping mad at former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney after a botched speech to the Miami-Dade Republican Party. What did that crazy gringo do, you may ask? Well, Romney apparently butchered the Spanish language, called Cuban legislative leaders by the wrong names and pretended to be a Cuban freedom fighter, Fidel Castro and Tony Montana all rolled into one when in real life he’s just a white Republican Mormon. From Michigan. Quoting from the Herald story:
Romney also garnered criticism for his hard-line stance on immigration and ending the talk with the phrase “Libertad, Libertad, Libertad,” a revolutionary saying made famous in the gangster movie “Scarface,” which many Cubans feel plays on cultural stereotypes.
Let’s see, is there any way Mitt Romney could have f*cked up this speech any worse? Seriously, he could have snorted some blow from the rostrum, called the crowd “f*ckin’ Colombians,” yelled “Say hello to my little friend” and unloaded clip after clip from an M16/M203 grenade launcher into the audience and probably gotten better reviews.
UPDATE - Damn we are good. FITSNews has tracked down a picture of Romney giving his speech.
