I was totally against the designated hitter, as I was a lukewarm Cubs fan and full-on National League guy. Then my mom got remarried to a Red Sox fan and *thwack*, I switched positions faster than Mitt Romney.

If you’ve every played a baseball video game with an AL team like the Sox in one of those awful interleague games, you grow to love the DH. There’s nothing worse than watching Tim Wakefield try to hit.

I think it’s time to pop the DVD in tonight, fire up MLB 2K6 (haven’t gotten the new one yet) and toast the coming season.

On another sports note, a toast to Renaldo Balkman in for his SportsCenter facetime with the Knicks. Both Dave Odom and Andrew Sorenson went to the NCAA to appeal so that Balkman could play in ‘03-’04, and thank God for that.

Crash was right. I ALSO BELIEVE there should be a constitutional amendment banning Astroturf and the designated hitter.

Both of those are Un-American. You should play baseball outside. In the daytime. On grass. And the fans should be required to drink a beer and eat a hot dog.
