It’s All About Rudy

WINNING IN THE LAND OF FIRE AND BRIMSTONE MAY NOT BE AS DIFFICULT AS HIZZONER THOUGHT

FITSNews – March 2, 2007 – So let’s get this straight – among hard-core Republican activists in the heart of redneck, Bible-thumpin’, New York-hatin’ Spartanburg, S.C., the first choice for President right now is Rudy Giuliani?

You know aside from people telling us Mitt Romney had the fix in, if you had asked us how we really thought the voting was going to go yesterday we would have broken it down like this: Strom Thurmond – 500 votes. Rick Beltram 3 votes (him, his wife and daughter). Ghengis Khan – 2 votes. Pat Robertson – 2 votes. Attila The Hun – 1 vote. G. Gordon Liddy – 1 vote.

And those Spartanburg Republicans wouldn’t have been messing around. They would have pulled those levers for Strom due to his electability.

Anyway, there is no other way to spin last night’s Spartanburg Straw Poll results as anything other than a huge momentum boost for Rudy Giuliani.

Hizzoner stepped into the Crazy Den in the heart of God’s Country and won a huge vote of confidence from the very people who were supposed to derail his South Carolina candidacy.

How’d it happen?

Well as much as we hate to admit it, Jon Lerner may have it right. And we say that not to spite Hizzoner, we just think Lerner sucks.

Oh, and as for “Mitt the Flip,” seriously dude – Give it up.

You ran television ads. You sent out full color mailings. You had the local party chairman in your pocket.

And yet Duncan Hunter AND Sam Brownback still whooped your ass.

Well, let’s just say it’s not a pretty day in McCainville or Romneyville. Wonder how much money was spent per vote?

Duncan Hunter beats McCain – OUCH!

OUCH! Duncan Hunter and Sam Brownback beats Romney – OUCH!

So, McCain and Romney have 10 or more paid staffers…so each paid staffer got less than 10 people out last night.

I think you drastically underestimate Strom Thurmond’s vote count up there in the Sparkle.

It was no surpise to me. We like New Yorkers and Yankees generally — as long as they’re not proposing to move here, and as long as they’re not pussies. (That narrows it down a little, I grant you, but there it is.)

not every romney staffer was doing GOTV work for the straw poll. at least one of them was cold-calling elected officials this week in the Lowcountry, asking for support.

because, as they say, endorsements don’t matter and they’re not trying to win the endorsement game.

well, i don’t know if they’re trying or not, but so far, they’re not.

or much of anything else for that matter.
