T-Rav Has Made A Decision
STATE TREASURER READY TO ROLL ON KEY BUDGET & CONTROL BOARD VOTE
FITSNews - January 26, 2007 - State Treasurer Thomas Ravenel is ready to roll with his decision on controversial S.C. Budget and Control Board Executive Director Frank Fusco.
The only problem? He’s not telling anybody what that decision is.
“I’ve made my decision on that,” Ravenel told FITSNews late Friday afternoon. “I’m keeping it close to the vest, though.”
But others are not keeping Ravenel’s decision - or what they think it is, anyway - so close to their vests.
Sources close to South Carolina Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom’s office tell FITSNews that Ravenel is going to vote with Eckstrom and Gov. Mark Sanford to get rid of Fusco, thus paving the way for Sanford to name his current chief of staff Henry White as the Board’s new executive director.
In fact, these sources tell us that Eckstrom was rumored to be taking the bad news to Fusco personally in an effort to encourage him to resign prior to Tuesday’s Budget and Control board meeting.
Sanford and Eckstrom tried last year to remove Fusco, a former aide to Democratic Gov. Jim Hodges, but were unsuccessful.
So why is all of this so important?
Well, of all the incredibly f*cked up government agencies that the incredibly f*cked up State of South Carolina has in its incredibly f*cked up structure of government, the Budget and Control Board is the biggest f*ck up of them all.
Well maybe second to the Department of Transportation. Which has always been f*cked up.
It is also incredibly important because whoever is in charge of the Budget and Control Board could conceivably make State Retirement Systems Director Peggy Boykin wear skirts instead of pantsuits to all Board meetings. Because let’s face it, it really sucks when she wears pantsuits. And it’s really cool when she wears skirts.
