Jarrett, Johnson Have Big Bowls
WIDE RECEIVERS’ PERFORMANCES COULD IMPACT WHETHER USC STAR SIDNEY RICE COMES BACK FOR JUNIOR SEASON
FITSNews – January 4, 2007 - Big bowl performances from star wide receivers Dwayne Jarrett (Southern California) and Calvin Johnson (Georgia Tech) could determine whether or not either player – or both – comes out early for the NFL Draft. That, of course, could have a big impact on whether USC star Sidney Rice stays at the University of South Carolina for his junior season in 2007.
Rice has said he plans on staying, but that his decision could change based on where he might be drafted.
Clearly all three are ready for the next level. Jarrett torched Michigan for 204 yards and two touchdowns in the Rose Bowl while Johnson did similar damage to West Virginia, albeit in a losing effort, racking up 186 yards and two touchdowns against the Mountaineers in the Gator Bowl. For his part Rice caught 8 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown in the Gamecocks’ victory over Houston in the Liberty Bowl.
