CONSTRUCTION BEGINS AT GROUND ZERO ON 1776-FOOT SKYSCRAPER THAT HAS BEEN NEW YORK GOVERNOR’S DREAM SINCE 9/11

FITSNews – December 20 - It took a lot longer than he expected, but New York Gov. George Pataki finally got to watch the first steel columns of the Freedom Tower raised into place yesterday at Ground Zero.

It was a nice day for the governor, who has fought all kinds of battles to get this massive project off the ground.

South Carolinians have seen a good bit of Pataki recently. In addition to political stops in Charleston, Conway and Spartanburg, among other places, Pataki visited White Knoll Elementary in the Midlands earlier this year to thank students who raised money for a brand new NYFD fire truck in the weeks following the 9/11 attacks.

He’s also been working the ground in Iowa and New Hampshire, although he has yet to announce whether or not he will make a run at the Presidency.
